Account For Your Customers’ Email Opt Out Preferences

If your customers choose Email Opt Out or the Don’t Market email privacy setting, your company should send them non-commercial emails only, such as product shipping updates and service plan changes. Previously, Salesforce didn’t account for these settings, and didn’t send any emails to these customers. You can prevent reps from sending email to customers with these privacy settings by removing their Send Non-Commercial Email permission.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.

Who: Reps with the Send Non-Commercial Email permission can send non-commercial email. This permission is on by default for all standard profiles that send email and for already-created custom profiles.

How: To use this feature, enable Data Protection and Privacy and Enforce email privacy settings.

Reps with the permission confirm that the email is non-commercial before it’s sent.

To prevent a rep from sending email to customers who’ve opted out, disable Send Non-Commercial Email in their permission set.



List emails aren’t sent to recipients with the Email Opt Out or Don’t Market email privacy settings. Case email can always be sent to recipients with these email privacy settings.
